Ready for Change

Written January 2013

Time has passed and my heart is still heavy about possibly leaving Dr. Miracles office.  I just have this feeling in the pit of my stomach that we aren't receiving the proper medical care.  I broke down and decided to call Dr. S's office and make a consult.  To my surprise they were able to schedule me the next week, this never happened in the past.. it was usually months before you could get an appointment.

I arrived at my consult 15 minutes early and ready to drill Dr. S with my questions. Tyler was unable to make it due to work, so I had his questions ready too. I was taken back to Dr. S's office promptly after my arrival.  To my surprise, Dr. S immediately remembered who I was because when he was reviewing my chart, he remembered the very long surgery he did on me to repair my fallopian tubes.  He also was surprised at all of the procedures I had done at Dr. Miracles office.  He said that with all the eggs that I had had extracted ( a total of three egg retrievals, and 65 eggs ) there should be no reason why I've only had one pregnancy and seven frozen embryos.  He then began to go over and compare the success rates between the two offices.  It was clear that Dr. S' success rate was a great deal higher.  He then called in the embryologist (we'll call him CJ)and he also was surprised by the findings in my chart.  He assured me that we wouldn't have the same problems because his practices are far more successful.  I had an overall great feeling so I requested we go on the books for an FET the next month.

The IVF coordinator (we'll call her Sweetheart) was then called into the office to go over the FET dates.  We were on the books for the end of March.  We went over all the fine details and I was given the consent packet to take home and review with Tyler. We then made arrangements for CJ to go and pick up my seven babies from Dr. Miracles office.

After everything was worked out- I left the office with my confidences restored and excitement and hope at my all time high.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions,

Written October 2012

Our precious baby girl is now approaching her first birthday.. the past year has just flown by. We have been discussing  when we were going to hop on the emotional roller coaster again and the baby fever is nipping me in the butt... HARD!  We know we want a big family and we don't want them spread too far in age.  I made the call to Dr. Miracle's office and Nurse Awesome answered the phone.  I told her we were ready for a consult and we were hoping to have an FET in February of 2013.  She was excited and scheduled us an appointment for the next week.

The day was here, I got up early and made the 40 minute drive to Dr. Miracles office.  I walked in to discover Dr. Miracle had replaced his whole staff.  The friendly faces that I had grown so close to, the women that empathized and cried with me were no longer there.  I was upset, but I could deal with it, after-all it's the doctor who matters the most.  I had my consult with Dr. Miracle and we discussed our options.  We decided on doing an FET in the Spring of 2013, but in the time leading up to that.. I would try naturally with the assistance of Clomid.

When I left the office that day, something just didn't seem right. I felt like something was being hidden from us and that we weren't receiving correct information.  I kept trying to put the feelings behind me, but the emotions kept creeping back up.  When I talked to Tyler about this, he suggested setting up a consult with our original RE, Dr. S.

I was torn and conflicted but knew we had a tough decision to make.

My Belated Birth Story (Part Two)

The morning of October 13, 2011, I was woken up by our sweet labor and delivery nurse to take a quick shower (per my request the night before) at four o'clock in the morning. After my shower, Tyler got ready for the day and the sweet nurse (we'll call her "Nurse S") gave me a big bag of Pitocin for breakfast at five am sharp.  The day was finally here! We were going to meet the little miracle that we fought so hard to conceive and carry to full term.

Anxious daddy waiting for baby

The contractions kicked in at 5:30 am, almost immediately.  They were tolerable at this time, just felt like strong menstrual cramps.  At around 7 am, there was a shift change and Nurse S was replaced with another nice nurse (we'll call her "Nurse T").  My mother also arrived at this time to support us during the process.  My contractions were getting stronger and closer together.  Nurse T gave me some medication in my IV (don't remember the name)to help subside the pain since I didn't want an epidural so early in the laboring process.  I remember feeling some relief and becoming extremely fatigued, I fell asleep 15 minutes after the medication was administered.

At around 10 am, the rest of my family arrived.. my father, who took a sick day from work to be there, my sisters Brittany (20), Brianna(16), and Jaelyn (5).  My grandmother, my great grandmother, my uncles and my aunts.  I was still droghy, falling in and out of sleep in between contractions.  I remember gribbing the bedrail durring contractions and my husband, mother, and gradmother heling me breathe through them.  At 10:30 am, I couldn't take much more pain and requested an epidural.  Nurse T paged Dr. Hip to get the go ahead for the epi.  He told her to put in the order but hold off anesthesiology until he got there to break my bag of water.

Dr. Hip arrived at 10:45 to check my progress and break my water. I was at 5 cm and 60% effaced.  He went ahead and broke my bag of water. It didn't hurt, just uncomfortable.  He informed me he would be back soon to check on me again. At 11:15 am, within minutes of Dr. Hips departure the the anesthesiologist came in.  I was nervous, but at the same time I wanted to pain gone like NOW.  They pulled the curtain shut to give us some privacy from the rest of the family.  To my surprise, they let Tyler stay and hold my shoulders while I hugged a pillow and a giant needle was shoved in my back.  Relief started to kick in and I wanted to kiss the anesthesiologist.

Updating Facebook.  I believe my exact status was "I want to kiss the person who invented epidurals!".

I was now comfortable, enjoying my family, popping ice chips like they were going out of style.  My labor was progressing well, before I knew it three hours and three centimeters had flown by.  Tyler and most of my family decided to go down to the cafeteria and get some lunch since we were at the calm phase of labor.  Twenty minutes had past and I was enjoying chatting with my grandma and great grandma when all of a sudden a nurse flew in my room, told me to get on my side NOW, and put an oxygen mask over my face.  She said that the baby's heartbeat kept dropping and she wasn't tolerating the labor at the moment.  I got scared, worried, and panicked.  Tyler came back in the see my condition and worry struck his face.  The nurse explained what happened and assured us that everything was fine.  Our baby girl's heartbeat quickly stabilized with the extra oxygen.

Ready to PUSH!!

At 4:00 pm, Nurse T checked me and I was at 10 cm and 100% effaced.  Yep, time to push!!!  We kicked everyone out of the room except for my mother and Brittany (they stayed behind the curtain).  At around 4:30  pm, I starting to pushing process. I  pushed with the epidural in and nothing was happening, so Nurse T turned off the epidural. I pushed some more... NOTHING!! I turned onto all fours and pushed.. nothing.  In the mean  time, I'm in full blown labor with no epidural.  Contractions were HARD and coming one after another.  At some point I asked how long I had been pushing and Tyler responded, "Two hours".  At this time, I requested my doctor and was begging for her out.  I was in a puddle of sweat, in extreme pain, and tired.

Dr. Hip arrived 30 minutes later. That gives a total pushing time of 2 and a half hours.  He examined me and confirmed that the baby was not moving down. He said that he could let me push for another 30 minutes to the cutoff mark of three hours but he didn't believe the baby was going to come naturally and the safest option at this point was a c-section.  Tyler and I agreed.  Minutes later I was being prepped and whisked down for surgery.

We were wheeled down to the OR and waiting for my Dr. Hip's assistant to arrive.  They explained to me that they wouldn't be able to administer the epidural again until the assistant arrived because if an emergency happened then there would be nobody to assist with the delivery.  I lost it, I couldn't do it... I begged and the OR Nurse explained that if a emergency came up, she would be able to assist.  The anesthesiologist agreed and approximately 10 minutes later... I was pain free.

Soon after, Dr. Hips's assistant (we'll call her "Nurse J") arrived.  Funny story is she is one of my customers at my store.  She was in a couple weeks prior and we were jokingly telling each other that we better not see each other in the OR.  I looked at her and said, "I told you I didn't want to see you in here." She responded with "Oh my God... it's you!!".  Before I knew it, I was cut open and my baby was about to be delivered.

I was laying there on the opperating table with my arms strapped down and my husband at my side when I heard "Nurse J" say, "Okay guys get ready! Oh my, she is staring right at us! She's here!!!" Dr Hip quickly followed with, "It's a girl and she looks beautiful!".  Seconds later we heard our newborn daughter cry.  The sound was so beautiful and I couldn't stop myself from crying.  They held her up for us to see her and then they whisked her away for observation.

 Being Delivered

Shortly after, a nurse brought her back and placed her in my husbands arms.  We got a family photo and then they informed us that she needed to be monitored for a little bit.  My husband and I agreed that if a c-section was needed that he would stay with the baby at all times while I was in surgery.  He followed the nurse who was carrying our brand new baby girl, a baby girl we had yet to name.

  First Family Photo

Thirty minutes passed by and I was finally being wheeled into the recovery room.  I was previously told that my husband and daughter would meet me there, but upon arrival, I was informed that they had an emergency and unfortunately I would have to wait an hour before meeting my daughter.  That hour ticked by slllooowwwllllyyyy... Then finally I was wheeled up to my room.

After I was situated, a blonde nurse came in pushing an isolette.  My husband picked up our daughter and placed her into my arms. At that moment, my heart melted, I couldn't hold back my tears and I cried like a baby.  I told Tyler to get the rest of our family and they all came piling in.  I watched as they all stared at her in awe, some with tears in their eyes.  It was at that moment when I realized for as long as we had been hoping and praying for her... they were too!  Everyone was asking for a name and that was one thing that we still hadn't decided.  We informed everyone that we wanted some rest and to please come back in the morning and by the morning we would have a name.

My husband and I went back and forth.  We had two names picked out Kaydence Elizabeth and Gabriella Rose.  We decided to sleep on it and in the morning my husband decided on what to name her.

Everyone please meet Gabriella Rose

My Belated Birth Story (Part One)

The week of October 9th, I had been experiencing some really bad headaches. This was nothing new to me considering I'm prone to migraines. I've gotten them since I was a child. On Tuesday the 11th, Tyler woke me up and told me to get ready. He then informed me  that he called Dr. Hip's office and spoke with Nurse Chill. He voiced his concern with her about my headache and some other things that were going on and she said to come in at 11:00 a.m  for an appointment. I was shocked that he called, apparently he was really worried.

When we arrived at Dr. Hip's, we were taken back to the exam room minutes after we walked in. Nurse Chill came in to take my vitals and that is when the bad news came. My blood pressure was really high. I forget the exact number, but it was up there. She left the room to go get Dr. Hip and he came in to examine me to see if I was progressing on my own.  He informed me that I was not making progress and he had a decision to admit me, or strip my membranes and see me again in two days.  He voiced his concern that if he admitted me he was concerned labor would be long and hard and that I would end up with a c-section.  After some discussion Tyler and I decided to wait it out at home in hopes I would start to progress on my own.  Dr. Hip gave me some warning signs of preeclampsia and stressed that if I experience any of the symptoms I needed to call the office immediately.  Tyler and I headed home and on the way, he called his boss to put in for his paternity leave.  We spent the next couple days just relaxing, enjoying the last little bit of quiet time as a family of two.  We knew our lives were about to change and we were taking it all in.  I was anxiously waiting for our upcoming appointment.

On October 12, 2011, the morning of my appointment I awoke with another severe migraine.  The migraine was so severe it hurt to blink.  I called Dr. Hip's office immediately and spoke with Nurse Chill.  She instructed me to go to labor and delivery a.s.a.p.  Tyler and I had a feeling we wouldn't be back for a couple days, so I tripled checked our hospital bags while Tyler walked our three fur legged babies.  Then we loaded everything in the truck and made the drive to the hospital.

We arrived at labor and delivery at around three o' clock in the afternoon.  Nurse Chill had already called ahead so they had a bed ready for us.  The nurse immediately took my vitals and a urine sample.  She informed me that she was paging Dr. Hip and to get comfortable because I wasn't going to be going anywhere any time soon.  She came back and informed me that I was being admitted and transported to a room because my blood pressure was dangerously high and I had protein in my urine.  As I was being wheeled up to my new room, Tyler was walking next to me making phone calles to our families.

Once we got to our room, I changed into a gown and Tyler snapped one last belly shot.

I was allowed to eat something and then the nurse administered cervidil to get my cervix to ripen.  Induction was scheduled for five o' clock am the following morning.  I knew I had a long day ahead of me, so I requested something to help me sleep and went to bed early.  I just couldn't wait to hold my little miracle the next day.

I'm Back

Dear followers (if I even have any left)...

I'm so sorry I fell off the face of the earth. I don't know why and I don't have any excuses, but I just stopped blogging there for a while. I kind of want to kick myself in the butt for it because I feel like there was so much for me to blog about.. I just never sat down to do it. Well I'm back... happy, healthy, and with a beautiful little girl and plan to blog about it along the way.

Gender Scan

The day was finally here... we were going to find out what our little love bug was! I was only 15 weeks pregnant at the time and everyone thought I was basically crazy for paying for a 4D ultrasound to find out the sex of baby. I just couldn't go another minute not knowing.

On April 20, we had our long awaited 4D ultrasound appointment. I say long awaited because I made the appointment when I first found out we were finally expecting. I was only 15 weeks at the time, but Tyler's mom was going to be in town that week, so I figured it was the perfect time to do it. Along with Ty's mom, we invited Ty's dad, my mom and dad, my grandma, and my 92 year old great grandmother.

The facility was nice, homey, cozy, and had extremely friendly staff. The room we were in was big and everyone fit comfortably. It was equipped with a comfy bed, a couple couches and two big plasma T.V's. Shorty after we got situated the tech came in and started the ultrasound. All of our hearts melted when we saw our Love Bug's face.

This was the first picture we captured....

The baby was being shy and wouldn't let us get a picture of his/her face at first, but then we captured this beautiful photo.

Then it was time to find out if we were going to decorated pink or blue. This little one definitely takes after mommy because he/she was being extremely stubborn. The baby would not uncross his or her legs. The baby was sitting Indian style with his/her feet right in the area we needed to see. The tech tried shaking my belly to get the baby to switch position and that didn't work. I ate chocolate, tried walking around, did hula hoops, bent down and touched my toes (totally not joking) and this little bugger still wouldn't move. Finally after more shaking of the belly the tech finally got the shot we needed and our little one is a.....

GIRL!!!!

Tyler was a little shocked because he was so certain it was a boy, but he is very excited about having a sweet little girl. We took a family photo and then all went out for lunch to celebrate.

Introducing Dr. Hip

My dear followers... I'm so sorry to have left you with a cliff hanger. I've been a horrible blogger and am having trouble transitioning from infertile blogger to pregnant blogger. Good news is.. baby and I are doing fine :)

On 3/02/11, we had our first appointment with our new OB. The staff seemed friendly, but nothing like Dr. Miracle's office. We had a consult with our OB (I shall name him Dr. Hip because he reminds me of a hippy) and then an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy. I thought the ultrasound to confirm pregnancy was silly, but was not going to complain about seeing my little miracle again.

When we walked into the ultrasound room... I about had a heart attack when I saw his ultrasound machine because it looked like it was from 1950, no joke. After getting undressed, Dr. Hip and his nurse ( I shall name her Nurse Chill because she is very laid back) came in to start the ultrasound. I was relieved to see our little miracle and his/her heart just beating away. Dr. Hip said everything looked great and confirmed my estimated due date to be 10/12/11.

Here is a picture of our Miracle at 7 weeks and 6 days.

I told you the ultrasound machine was ancient and you can tell by the sono picture that I wasn't lying ;)

We go back to see Dr. Hip every 4 weeks, until my last month of pregnancy.
